If you are walking on the Charlie's Hole walk starting at the Bluff Road car park, you may notice several small markers with green flags. This area has been direct seeded a number of times over the past few years, and the flagged area denotes furrows which have been direct seeded with indigenous trees.
Members and volunteers have each adopted one or more of these furrows, and are maintaining them by removing any larger woody weeds such as Carpet Weed (Galenia pubescens), Flax Leaf Broom (Genista linifolia) and Gorse (Ulex europaeus). Until the trees have established themselves, any smaller weeds are being left, as they help to protect the trees.
If you would like to participate in the adopt-a-furrow programme, please contact a committee member, who will be happy to show you what to do to maintain this area.
